Cliché award

Ben Cousins wins cliché of the day award. He didn't drag out the perennials-of-contriteness by talking up "the team" or "the boys" like Barry Hall.

Instead, he contributed an astute analysis of the footy season and this particular moment in time.

"Everything that has gone into this year is about tomorrow..... and it's not far away", Cousins said to the enthusiastic applause of Eagles supporters.

Lord Mayor: Welcome home Swans

The Lord Mayor John So joined the Grand Final cup on the impressive dais.

"I congradulate the West Coast Eagles and welcome home the Sydney Swans", he said. [Melbourne] "There's no other place to be." [Melbourne] "The home of the AFL Grand Final."

The Lord Mayor should look into expanding his vocabulary beyond these punchy promotional one-liners.

Barry Hall

To the disappointment of the fans who had made the effort to attend the parade, Barry Hall spent much of his time bent over and hidden by his cap, conducting a TV interview, when he should have been interacting with the hungry crowd.

Fashion Free Zone

Unlike the Brownlow night, where all eyes were on the footballers' wives and girlfriends, fashion plays no part in the Grand Final Parade. Footballers wear trackie daks and the public - Well come as you are:
